New prose of Kazakhstan “BOOK of HOPE”, 2001

Chapter “TRAGIC PILGRIMS…”, Gaziza Jubanova and Kurmangazy: fates, creative work, meetings and totals “Within this conclusion it is fit to say that her last learner Anara Musrepova devoted to creative work of Kurmangazy her new composition made for popular orchestra. This composition is a mixing of two genres: kuy and poem, and combines the signs of kuy improvisation and ancient European concert; this composition incarnate a tradition of author of kuys, which anniversary is celebrated by the world. Already now Anara shows her skill to “retain” the audience “within the power of sound”. This work of young composer may be defined by words of her teacher: “by breadth of ideas and nerve-strain, form and culmination” this composition continues the line of virtuoso style of Kurmangazy and contains the same “optimism, impulse, eternal motion and struggle”.

At the beginning of December, Almaty was visited by Yuriy Bashmet for solo concert; his name is within the greatest names of 20th century. … The Kazakh admirers of classic music enjoyed the performance by Bashmet of best musical compositions created by Russian, foreign and Kazakh (!) composers. The interesting is that this composition is created by composer Anara Musrepova, heroine of our last issue and candidate for title “Miss Season-99”.

“At the end of the concert the sisters Svetlana and Veronika have surprised us… the name of Anara Musrepova was not mentioned. The pianists performed her composition “Through centuries”. The undisputable merits of this chamber composition include the strong individuality of the author, stylistic precision in combination of national melos and composer discoveries of just our century. In composition Anara is a strict successor of Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich and others …”

“In the big musical world the little boom takes place. The orchestra “Virtuosos of Moscow” for the first time performed a composition of Kazakh author. The boom is more important due to the fact that the composer is not a venerable creator and maitre of Kazakh Art but a very young composer. The known orchestra of Vladimir Spivakov performed the kuy of our Anara Musrepova. The inevitable biographic information will be very brief too: Anara Musrepova is 24 years old, she is a composer. Her compositions were performed in Russia (Moscow), Germany and Italy. This year she was awarded by President’s grant. And she is a last learner of Gaziza Jubanova …”

“The concert of commemoration of Gaziza Jubanova”: the name given to the concert performed in Moscow by her last learners Anara Musrepova and Timur Tleukhan. The most remarkable is the kuy of Anara for chamber orchestra “Winds of ancient steppe”. This composition as drop of water reflects the force of musical expression and properties typical for young author. This composition shows the signs of maturity and mastery; the national origin is very clearly expressed. The author successfully and bravely transmits the sensation of wideness of native steppe in the ostinant and rhythmic “motion” of orchestra, the strict logic of development of kuy musical idea in combination with the freedom of improvisation and naturalness of images. All these things evidence the resume by author of big experience of national traditions and their modern sound”.
